Graduation of Young Journalists for 2024 from The Sri Lanka College of Journalism

The Sri Lanka College of Journalism established in 2004 held its 2024 graduation ceremony honouring its most recent cohort of diploma and certificate program graduates on Wednesday, November 27, at the Orchid Hall of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). 

Ms. Hana Ibrahim, Deputy Chairperson of the Sri Lanka College of Journalism, delivered the opening remarks, warmly welcoming the graduates and distinguished attendees. Dr. Senesh Bandara Dissanayake, a prominent academic in journalism/ media studies and the current Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, served as the guest of honour, delivered an inspirational keynote address, emphasizing the importance of journalism in shaping public discourse and fostering accountability.

Following the keynote address certificates were awarded to students from the Diploma in Journalism program, the Certificate Course in News Reading and Presentation, and the Certificate Course in Television News Reporting and Lighting Techniques. Special honours were presented to Ms. Janushika Sivarajan and Ms Minaza Hassan, who were named the best-performing students in the Diploma in Journalism program. Ms. Gnei Agza Johar was awarded for best performance in the Certificate Course in News Reading and Presentation.

The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of esteemed guests, including Editors from leading newsrooms, representatives from diplomatic missions, and members of the Board of Directors of the Sri Lanka College of Journalism and the Sri Lanka Press Institute.
The Sri Lanka College of Journalism operates under the aegis of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, constituted by the Newspaper Society of Sri Lanka, The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka, the Free Media Movement, and the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association. It is widely regarded as the nation’s premier institute for journalism education and training.
